A Dozen Reasons Why Dirty Harry’s Detailing Will Make Your Day! To Start with, we are the official detailers of the original Air Force One presidential jet, and Harry himself, a retired Jersey City Police Officer, just returned from his second turn as assistant project manager on the 2013 team, made up of the 33 most highly-skilled detailers in the country. Then there is the fact that Harry and Joseph received their detailing certifications from the most respected detailing trainer in the country - Renny Doyle of Attention to Details & Detailing Success in Big Bear Lake, CA. As members of the "Detailers Network", we are trained in the art of detailing!
Harry and his son Joseph, a Jersey City Police Officer and reconditioning technician in his own right, have detailed some of the country's most precious national treasures, many of which sit in museums across the country. At the Seattle Museum of Flight, we have restored the bright work on an all-aluminum WW11 B29 Bomber and refurbished the paint on NASA's first Boeing 737. Last year, we restored the paint on four antique fire apparatus trucks scheduled for display at the New Jersey Fire Engine & Equipment Museum at Allaire State Park. Visit the Dirty Harry's Website now to learn how detailing in New Jersey is done right!

If it Rolls On Wheels, Glides on water, or Flies Through the Air...We can restore the shine on your everyday drive, a restored classic, a luxury sedan, or a Big Boy Toy like a motorcycle, boat, truck, or RV. We utilize the most innovative and environmentally safe methods for interior deep European steam cleaning, and odor and bacterial removal. We even provide add-on services like headlight and taillight restoration, and seat and headliner cleaning.
Known for our commitment to perfection and eye precision, Dirty Harry's participates in ongoing training that keeps us apprised of the latest detailing techniques. We are accredited as a master GTECHNIQ studio, using only high-grade, professional equipment and products, waxes, and coatings.
Licensed and Certified in Paint Correction...Certified to the highest standards in the automotive detailing industry, Dirty Harry's is not only experts in multistage paint coreection to remove fine scratches, swirls, water spots, streaks and holograms caused by automated carwashes and inexperienced detailers, but we can restore the shine to aging, cloudy, oxidized paint.
Nationally Recognized But Community-Focused...Featured on the cover of Detailers Digest last year, Harry is known for leading pro bono community efforts like cleaning up the emergency vehicles flooded by Hurricane Sandy in Union Beach, and sponsoring charitable events like Wounded Veterans Bike Ride and others throughout New Jersey.

We are expertly trained to work on modern paints and understand paint technology. So whether your vehicle is being detailed, having a set of running boards put on, or a new car audio system installed, you can feel confident that your car is being handled with care by the specialists at  Jim’s Auto Installations & Detailing Center.

Twenty-five years ago on June 1, 1986, Jim’s Auto opened their doors as a small car audio and detailing shop located inside John’s Citgo on Central Street in Ipswich. Little in size, we were always big on ideas, and like any field of dreams – when we built it, you came!

Beginning June 1, Jim’s Auto begins a yearlong celebration of 25 years of excellence in the automotive detailing and restyling industry. It was customer demands for additional products and services that made Jim’s Auto the city’s favorite toy store for car lovers, carrying everything you can imagine for the automotive aftermarket, and providing the newest techniques in the detailing industry.

For those who don’t remember, 1992 was an important year for owner, Jim Goguen. “It is a challenge for a small business to step out of its comfort zone and take on more space, more products, more services, and more employees; but since we were growing in response to customer requests, we saw the expansion as necessary.” Moving into their current location at 5 Washington Street alongside TNT Car Wash, Jim’s added window tinting to their already booming detailing business and invested in a healthy inventory of truck accessories with complete automotive restyling services including vinyl lettering and graphics.

Through the years, Jim’s always carried simple car audio systems and CD players, but as higher technology took hold, Jim evolved into full blown 2000 WATT systems, and full custom navigation systems with IPod integration, Bluetooth, and car video capabilities.

Still, it wasn’t enough! In 2001, Jim’s doubled their space to 1,200 square feet and added two work bays and a comfortable office area where customers could wait… or shop. “Detailing is not just a job to us – it is a true passion. I believe this is obvious with our existing customers who have frequented our shop for years; and is apparent with new customers, who after trying us out, turn into repeat customers. That is what spurned our growth over the past twenty-five years - listening to the needs of our customers.”

One of only 28 detailers in the U.S. asked recently to test and provide feedback on a new cleaning product launched by industry leader, Meguiars; Jim’s Auto was named both a Certified Master Detailer and Doctorate of Detailing by detailer extraordinaire, Renny Doyle’s Attention to Details training program. The double honors twice qualified Jim for the Air Force One detailing team.

Featured in automotive publications nationwide and on local television, Jim designed and built the winning “Outstanding in Class” truck at the World of Wheels Boston 2010 for one of his customers. Jim’s is a long-standing member of both the Ipswich and Northshore Chambers of Commerce, the IDA (International Detailing Association), and the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

By visiting Jim’s Auto Installation & Detailing Center online at http://www.jimsauto.net, customers will receive monthly 25th Anniversary specials on automotive accessories and professional detailing services. “Thank you to our existing customer base for helping us achieve a 25th Anniversary,” says Jim. “We’re looking forward to 25 more years!”

Washington State Car Detailer Called To Buff Air Force One

EPHRATA – Bill “The Buff Man” Quinn returned from Seattle, leaving the original Air Force 1 shining.

He was part of a team of 35 detailers used to polish the famous Boeing 707-120 aircraft at the Museum of Flight.

The plane needed care after spending two years outdoors in Western Washington weather.

“It was definitely hard work,” Quinn stated. “The bright work is a lot harder to get clean than paint. In two years, metals, when exposed to the weather and atmosphere, begin to oxidize and it gets cloudy. It is the same process that turns a sliced apple brown or a penny green.”

Quinn worked with the team to clean and shine the aluminum surfaces.

“We have to heft a 5-pouind Flex orbital polisher at eye level, and in some places, overhead to get the right angles, which can sometimes be awkward and very tiring for the upper body,” he stated.

The bottom half of the plane and inside the engine rims are shiny aluminum. Quinn said they wanted to make it shire enough to see reflections like a mirror.

“That is the state we are working to achieve when we polish the bright work,” Quinn stated. “After a couple of passes and about three days, by most people’s standards, it is shiny again. However, you are dealing with a team of professional detailers who are extremely picky … We went over the plane at least ten times to brush up a couple more spots we felt could be better.”

Before leaving Renton, some of the team began to polish the first NASA Boeing 737 used to zero gravity simulations. It is on display at the Museum of Flight with the original Air Force One.

His experience working at Genie in Moses Lake led to his use of a GenieLift to clean the plane’s vertical stabilizer, which caused him to work about 60 feet off the ground.

Quinn said the experience that led to him working on the planes comes from his work in Ephrata. He is proud of his work on detailing cars, boats and aircraft.

“That is the kind of professionalism we bring our everyday clients as well,” Quinn stated.

Santa Barbara Car Detailer Makes History Shine

Perched over the glistening side engines of the U.S.’s presidential aircraft, Air Force One, is Santa Barbara auto detailer Rob Regan, who spent nearly a week at the Seattle Museum of Flight earlier this month helping bring out the shine of the historical transport. Regan was one of just 32 other high-end vehicle detailers selected by master detailer Renny Doyle, who has organized the project “Detailers of Air Force One” for more than a decade. But even amongst these ranks, Regan stood out from the crowd, as the successful detailing business owner is also a full-time elementary school teacher.

Going by the nickname, “The Auto Detailing Teacher,” Regan spends his weekdays inside a classroom at Monte Vista Elementary School, where he has taught for 20 years. With a family of five, Regan admited his dual-career lifestyle can be tiring, but he said teaching gives him emotional fulfillment while the business side of detailing, and its “physical” engagement, are rewarding and “therapeutic” in a different sense.

Regan’s career decisions sprouted from a lifelong need to keep busy, he said, as he has a short attention span and a high energy level for as long as he can remember. As such, most of his high school days were spent focusing more on athletics than schoolwork. “I was so ADHD at the time — before there was a label — that my organization affected my schoolwork.” Eventually a knee injury during his junior year shifted his focus to school; he graduated from Sonoma State University in 1992, earning a teaching credential from California State University San Marcos (near San Diego) in 1993.

That same year, he began teaching at Monte Vista Elementary. Regan found enjoyment in teaching but was left with summers of leisure he didn’t necessarily need, “I can’t just sit and play golf, and hang out.” Two years later, he turned to auto detailing, ultimately founding his first auto care business, Regan’s Detailing.

Since then, he has attended multiple detailing training schools, and now a regular line of loyal customers and five-star Yelp ratings have catapulted his auto care business to success in just the last year and a half. Regan’s one-on-one interaction with customers and ability to tailor his services to each vehicle sets him apart from competitors. “It’s never a one-size-fits-all,” he said. “Cars are unique like people and they need to be treated that way.”

Regan’s week spent detailing Air Force One—a trip he’s made three times now—may be an even stronger testament to the quality of his work. “There’s not another organization, company, or group in the world that’s been able to touch these aircraft, like we have,” Doyle said. And for Regan, the week of volunteer work gives him a sense of reward that reaches beyond the seams of his wallet. “It’s a pride thing…600,000 people walk on this plane each year and look at it.”

In early September, Regan will travel to Reno, Nevada, to detail the Lockheed Model-10 Electra—the same aircraft piloted by Amelia Earhart when she disappeared in 1937. According to Doyle, Regan’s rising success is not only due to his level of skill, but also to his genuine love for his work. “Rob’s doing it out of passion. There’s nobody in the [Detailers of Air Force One] group that’s got any more passion than he does.”

Still, the blossoming detailer has no plans to leave Monte Vista Elementary School anytime soon. “Some of my friends say, ‘How long are you going to teach for?’, because the auto detailing is really picking up…[but] I can’t see myself not teaching. It would be weird.”

A self-proclaimed “out-of-the-box teacher,” Regan implements classroom practices like lifting medicine balls and listening to classical music—activities he said helps children who may be facing the same struggles he once felt. “You have to do a little bit of everything; you can’t just say, ‘Take out a book and read.’ You get kids like I was, and they can’t sit for 25 minutes and listen to a teacher talk.”

Even with two career paths in full swing, Regan coaches the Monte Vista track team, as well as the soccer and roller hockey teams of his children. His passion for detailing and teaching may run deep, but not setting enough time aside for himself and his loved ones just isn’t an option. “It wouldn’t be fair to me and it wouldn’t be fair to my family.”

It’s difficult to see exactly how Regan does it all, but what is certain is that he isn’t stopping anytime soon. “I’m just wired that way; I’ve come to accept it,” he said with a chuckle. Visit Santa Barbara Auto Detailing's Site Here At This Link

North Carolina Detailer Is Part of Elite Air Force One Detail Team

David Cobb, who has worked on detailing and restoring cars, RVs, and boats, was one of 32 people selected nationwide to restore the original Air Force One in Seattle.

Cobb says the group worked from tail to nose re-painting the aircraft and making it look brand new, so it can be shown off at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

"It was an honor, it really was. Working on a part of history like that; I was thankful to be chosen. Besides the complete exhaustion, at the end of the day, it was a huge honor," Cobb said.

Cobb added that presidents including Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon flew in that plane.

He said the aircraft is restored every two years to keep it in good condition. Read the full story here at this link

Written by Briana Gerdeman, Staff Writer    Courtesy Photo Craig MacKay, owner of Clean Planet Detailing in Woodinville, polishes the original Air Force One, the president’s plane. The original Air Force One jet plane stands outside the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Its blue and white paint is pristine.

Its aluminum gleams.

Inside the Air Force One — the plane used by the U.S. president — faux wood paneling and typewriters take visitors back to the era of Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon.

But keeping a 60-year-old plane in good condition is no small task, especially in Seattle’s inclement weather. So a team of the top detailers in the country assemble every other year to clean and protect the $1 million airplane.

Craig MacKay, owner of Clean Planet Detailing in Woodinville, was one of the detailers selected for the task. Air Force One’s history and its size make it different from the cars and boats he normally details in his shop, he said.

"The biggest difference is just the scope, how big it is," he said. "Also, the fact that you’re dealing with a relic, an antique."

The detailers have to be especially careful since they can’t buy a replacement part if they damage something.

To surmount the challenge of the plane’s height, the detailers hover over it, suspended by harnesses, to polish and clean the top.

Too much cleaning could damage the plane, which still has its original paint and aluminum. So MacKay said he and the other detailers "take a really deft touch with our polishers" and apply protective coatings to the plane.

Renny Doyle, a master detailer who’s worked on rare automobiles and celebrities’ jets, assembled the team of 33 detailers, all of whom he’s trained at his detailing school, Attention to Details.

"We need a blend of people that are capable with their tools and capable with their minds," Doyle explained. MacKay fills both those roles, and also mentors other, younger detailers, Doyle said.

Courtesy Photo. A team of 33 detailers spent a week cleaning and restoring Air Force One, which was used by Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.MacKay trained with Doyle after he left his 30-year career as president of Woodinville Lumber to turn his detailing hobby into a business.

"I’d always had an interest in cars and keeping cars looking nice, but never to the point of a profession," MacKay said.

This is the first time he’s worked on Air Force One  — a job that took a week of long days for the detailing team, MacKay said.

"We met at 6:30 in the morning, were on the plane by 7:00, and were done by 7:00, so it’s been 11- to 12-hour days," he said.

He admitted the work can get tedious – for example, he estimates he spent at least 60 hours polishing the aluminum on the underside of the plane.

"Your arms get so sore, literally holding the thing for hours on end," he said. "But it’s a labor of love."

The plane will continue to need touch-ups as long as it’s exposed to the elements. MacKay said the detailers’ goal is to extend its life until someday it can be stored indoors.

"It’s mostly not making it look perfect, because it’s a 60-year-old plane," he explained. "Mostly it’s about preserving it."
